About This Site

Japan is more than
the tourist trail.

Kyoto in cherry blossom season. Shibuya Crossing at rush hour. Mount Fuji on a clear day. These are real experiences — and they’re worth having. But if that’s all you see, you’re missing most of the country.

I started JAPAN TRIP LAB because I kept watching the same thing happen: travelers flying halfway around the world, spending their entire trip shoulder-to-shoulder with other tourists, then heading home thinking they’d “done Japan.”

I live in Japan. I was born here, grew up here, and still find new things to discover every time I leave the main tourist circuit. The quiet castle town that takes 40 minutes by local train. The ramen shop with no English menu but the best bowl you’ll ever eat. The orchard in Aomori where you pick apples straight from the tree in autumn.

That’s what this site is about.

What you’ll find here

Honest, practical guides written for people who actually want to travel — not just tick boxes. Food, transport, regional destinations, day trips, and the kind of tips that only come from living here.

No fluff. No outdated information recycled from 2015. Just real guidance from someone who knows this country from the inside.

Welcome to Japan Trip Lab.
There’s a lot more to explore.
